Mobility of manganese in aquatic ecosystems
Original language description
The results obtained confirm, that manganese is accumulated in submerged water macrophytes in concentrations higher than that in sediments. Precipitation on the oxygenated surfaces of photosyntetically - active leaves could be the key process controllingaccumulation of Mn in submerged water plants. It seems, that the first step of Mn uptake by aquatic plant could be formation of manganese carbonate, whitch is adsorbed at the surface of aquatic plants (leaves). Decrease of pH in the solution caused solubilization of adsorbed MnCO3. The fraction of total manganese adsorbed on land suface was found much higher in the beginning of plant growth than in the end of vegetation season.
