    Genes of apple scab resistance

  • Original language description

    Apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) is a serious disease of apple trees (Malus sp.). Resistance to this disease is contingent upon several monogenic and polygenic factors. Several major genes as Vf, Va, Vm for resistance to apple scab have been identified.Genetic markers are alternative to classical methods of identification of genes for scab resistance present in different apple cultivars. In this study, 15 apple cultivars, both scab-resistant and susceptible ones, of Czech and foreign origin were screened by specific DNA markers for the presence of Vf and Vm genes of resistance using markers which are reported to be linked to them.
