Cadmium availability in soils treated by different forms of potassium fertilizers and Cd accumulation in corn biomass
Original language description
The main objective of this investigation was to determine changes of Cd accumulation by plants when sulfate and chloride potassium fertilizers were applied into soil and to find the influence of soil properties on Cd mobility. Different forms of potassium fertilizers significantly affected biomass yield of corn at Luvisols and Chernozems, an application of KCl decreased and K2SO4 significantly increased a yield of corn and subsequently affected Cd accumulation in plants mainly due to yield dilution effect. An adverse effect of KCl was not observed at acid Fluvisols. In this soil, the decrease of pH level was the predominant factor affecting the cadmium uptake by plants.
