    The effect of sewage sludge treatment on zinc uptake by potato (Solanum tuberosum, L.)

  • Original language description

    The effect of sewage sludge application compared with conventional inorganic fertilizers in four different soil-climatic regions of Czech Republic was investigated in field experiment with potato. Total zinc content and its dynamic uptake during vegetation were examined. Sewage sludge application supported higher potato tubers production at all the experimental sites. The best results were found at loamy cambisols in Humpolec and Lukavec. Analyses of plant samples showed significant Zn content differences between potato tubers and potato haulm. Potatoes accumulated several time more zinc in haulm than in tubers. Sludge application led to increasing Zn content in potato haulm on all tested soils, while in the case of tubers this effect was observed onlyat loamy luvisols Hněvčeves. Important influence of organic matter on grow of soil binding capacity for zinc was seen.
