Changes of lettuce seed quality after osmotic priming treatment
Original language description
In this experiment changes of lettuce seed quality after osmotic priming was studied. Nine seed lots from three varieties was hydrated in polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000 solution, at 20oC, with osmotic potential -1.5 MPa. Hydration treatment by osmotic priming significantly affect seed parameters of lettuce seed, but resultant effect depends on seed lot original quality. Optimal durations of priming for lettuce seed were 24 and 72 hours. The basic condition for succeful osmotic priming is seed lot with high germination percentage. It is also important to know speed and uniformity of germination, expressed as mean time of germination (MTG). Value of MTG can help us to better differentiate seed lots before priming.
