The effect of water stress on photosynthesis of maize

  • Original language description

The regulation of stomatal conductance is the main mechanism by which plants control parametres of gas exchange (photosynthetic rate and transpiration rate) between leaves and environment. On the regulation of gas exchange are partaken chemical and physical signallings. During water stress, a most likely candidate for root-to-shoot chemical signalling seems to be abscisic acid (ABA) generating in the roots and travelling through the shoot to leaves where together with ABA produced directly in leaves induces stomatal closure. The role of cytokinins on stomatal opening and gas exchange has not enough elucidated yet.
