The effects of mowing and mulching frequencies on meadow belowground phytomass

  • Original language description

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of two different mowing and mulching frequencies on belowground phytomass amount. The study was carried out on a humid loamy meadow where the vegetation type was Alopecuretum. Once mowing treatment showed negatively effects of belowground phytomass as a reduction of about 33% of belowground phytomass amount was observed. Under twice mowing per year treatment, belowground phytomass remained almost similar. Higher frequencies of mulching may keep or reduce belowground phytomass amount, in both cases mulching seems to be more favourable for root mass development than mowing.
