Phytoremediation ? tailored transgenic and normal tobacco in metal contaminated soil ? uptake and mycorrhizal colonisation
Original language description
Transgenic tobacco bearing yeast metallothionenin gene combined with a polyhistidine cluster as an additional metal binding domain was compared with non-modified tobacco. The transgenic tobacco exhibed increased cadmium accumulation and its transfer fromroots to harvestable parts. The effect of inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on tobacco growth and metal accumulation has been followed. There were no difference in mycorrhizal colonization between transgenic and control plants. Inoculation can increase tobacco biomass under certain condition and decreases the Cd concentration in the shoots of tobacco.
