Nonequilibrium water flow and contaminant transport in soil porous media are frequently observed phenomena. Numerical models that assume bi-modal soil porous systems have been developed to describe non-equilibrium flow and solute transport. Models usingthe Richards equation to simulate water fow in different influence of preferential flow on (a) Chlorotoluron transport in thesoil profile under field conditions and (b)ponded infiltration in clay soils with macorpores. It is shown that: 1. Application ofthe similar total hydraulic properties in the single and dual permeability models in this case resulted in similar cumulative water fluxes at the top of the sol profile and cumulative actual root wate uptakes and slightly different cumulative water fluxes at the bottom. Howevere the solute transport was significantly different. 2. Ponded infiltration was dominantly influenced by properties of the inter-aggregate pore domain.
