Original language description
Blister beetles (Meloidae) undergo hypermetamorphosis, a complex life cycle with several different larval forms. From an egg, the first larval stage (the triungulin stage) hatches and parasites or actively feeds on honeybee, grasshoper and other insect larvae. The first instar is followed by some grublike stages. The larva forms a pupa, metamorphoses and develops into the adult beetle. Most blister beetle species are critically endangered in the Czech Republic.
