Accumulation and distribution of seven most toxic Polychlorinated biphenyls in carrots grown on spiked soils

  • Original language description

The accumulation and distribution of seven most toxic PCB congeners (28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153 and 180) in carrots grown on spiked soils with different physical and chemical characteristics (Fluvisol, Chernozem) was investigated during two vegetation seasons. Concentrations of the sum of PCB congeners (PCB7) in carrot roots were significantly higher in the first experimental year when the level of PCB7 in carrot roots grown on Fluvisol (1280?130 ?g PCB7.kg-1) was 2.8-fold higher than on Chernozem. Differences in accumulation of individual congeners were more obvious in the second year of plantation in terms of higher accumulation rate of more chlorinated biphenyls in carrot roots grown on both investigated soils.
