The effect of couch grass (Elytrigia repens L.) infestation on lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) yield formation
Original language description
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Elytrigia repens (L.) infestation on yield formation of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.). The experiment with six lucerne germplasms was arranged in completely randomised blocks in 2003. In 2004 ? 2005,the measurement and sampling were repeatedly realized from the late vegetative to the early flowering stage in the first cut. The compressed height (CH) of stand by rising-plate meter and number of plants (P m-2) per each sampling point were measured. The number of most mature (mmS) and other stems (oS), total number of stems (sumS), stems number per plant (SpP), weight of stem (FMwS or DMwS), total dry matter yield (total DMY), weight of couch grass (calculated as weed ratio from total yield), lucernedry matter yield (DMY), and fresh matter yield (FMY) was assessed by each sample. The increase of infestation caused slow reduction of CH, FMwS, DMwS and SpP, strong reduction of mmS and sumS, significant (α=0.05) reduction of P m-2.
