The yields of aboveground biomass were measured in a field experiment with Lolium multiflorum cv. Lolita in Prague during three years. Four grass species, five legumes and four legume-grass mixtures, black fallow and spontaneously grassed swards were theforecrops. They were once or twice per year cut, once or twice per year mulched during the years 1996-2003. Lolium multiflorum as a following crop was cut three times per year and the mass was removed. The swards of L. multiflorum with legume forecropsproduced higher yields by 42%, resp. 27% in comparison with the swards established after grass forecrops in the 1st and 2nd vegetation year (by 27% resp. 13% after legume-grass mixtures). The lowest yields of L. multiflorum were found after the herbicidefallow (lower by 38 % than the swards with a sown forecrop). Mulching of forecrops twice per year increased the yields of L. multiflorum by 24% in comparison with the three times per year cut variant where the biomass was removed. The yi
