Detoxification of cadmium in spinach plant

  • Original language description

The effect of three increased levels of cadmium (Cd1 = 30, Cd2 = 60, Cd3 = 90 mg Cd.kg-1 soil) on spinach metabolism was investigated in a pot experiment. The distribution of cadmium into main groups of compounds in spinach biomass was investigated usingseven step sequential extractions. The results confirmed an important role of Cd complexation by oxalic acid in plant detoxification. Weight of H2O fraction after hydrolysis and Cd concentration in it increased in dependence on cadmium level of contamination. High significant difference between Cd concentration of control treatment and contaminated treatments show strong Cd detoxification in this fraction.
