Utilization of prebiotics by infant faecal bacteria.

  • Original language description

It is clear that high bifidobacterial counts (more than 9 log CFU/g) are typical for healthy infants, older than 1 week. Our resulta suggested that commercially available prebiotics support the growth of infant faecal clostridia. It is therefore questionable if bifidobacteria-deficient infants should be supplemented with prebiotics.
