Progesterone level in milk and pregnancy rate of Ovsynch-treated Holstein cows

  • Original language description

The objective of this study was to determine the course of progesterone level (PL) in the milk of 27 Ovsynch-treated Holstein cows from 10 days before (Day-10) to 35 days after evaluated AI (Day+35) and the pregnancy rate (PR) in relation to the calvingseason, parity, milk production in the first 100 days of lactation, number of inseminations, health, and the result of AI performed in March 2006. Cows calved from May to September achieved higher PL on Day+18 (P < 0.05) and a higher PR by 29.95%. A higher PL was detected in primiparous cows (P < 0.05). First-time inseminated cows had a higher PL on Day-18 (P < 0.05) and a higher PR than cows in second and subsequent insemination. The PL of cows pregnant after the evaluated AI was higher, with statistical significance on Day+35 only (P < 0.05). Cows with metritis had a lower PR by 38.00% and a higher PL to Day+13 with a subsequent decline on Day+18 (P < 0.05) and Day+21. Cows with an occurrence of multiple ovarian cysts attained a signi
