The objective was to analyse the course of the progesterone level (P4) in the milk of dairy cows during the first months of lactation in relation to the renewal of ovarian functions as monitored by ultrasound and reproduction results. A total of 115 Holstein cows with daily average milk yield 31.67 kg, 34.77 kg, and 34.11 kg in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd month of lactation were observed from March to November 2008. Their average milk production was 3397.99 kg during 100 days and 9135 kg during 305 days of lactation. Samples for analysis of the P4 were collected at 7-day intervals from the 32nd to the 134th day. Ultrasound examination was performed on the 52nd day. The frequency of ovarian cysts (OC) was 42.61%, corpus luteum (CL) 46.96% and no findings weredetermined in 10.43%. The results were evaluated by the SAS GLM.
