Effect of early growth abilities of Suffolk ewe lambs on their subsequent reproductive traits

  • Original language description

Primary selection of animals to reproduction is based on growth performance assessed in 100 days of age. The aim was to evaluate the ewe lambs? reproductive traits from 7 to 24 months of age related to live weight at this age. The primary data was provided by the Sheep and Goat Breeders Association of the Czech Republic. Total number of 772 Suffolk ewe lambs selected to reproduction in 2013 and subsequently lambed at least once during 24 months of age was included into the trial. Effects of flock, ewe lamb?s live weight at age of 100 days (LW100, kg), ewe lamb?s litter size, and season of lambing were recorded and evaluated using SAS 9.3. Dependent reproductive traits as total number of lambings (TNL), total number of lambs born (TLB, pcs.) or weaned (TLW, pcs.) in the period from 7 to 24 months of age were assessed. The ewes were divided in to 3 groups according to arithmetic means and standard deviations of LW100 (<30.72 kg; 30.72 ? 36.78 kg; >36.78 kg). Non-significantly highest val
