Factors affecting success of embryo collection in Holstein donors

  • Original language description

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of various factors on the success of embryo collection in 165 Holstein donors. Total of 225 embryo collections during years 2006?2013 were performed. The number of collected embryos (CE), number of transferable embryos (TE) and ratio of transferable embryos (RTE) were assessed. Correlation between number of CE and TE was 0.7 (p < 0.01), between TE and RTE 0.6 (p < 0.01), whereas between number of CE and RTE it was only 0.05. Embryo collectionsuccess didn0 t differ between heifers, first lactating cows and higher parity cows. However confirmed was the effect of milk yield level, where cows with low breeding value for milk yield (MYBV) as well as heifers (regardless potential MYBV) showed a significantly (p < 0.01) higher number and a higher ratio of transferable embryos, than cows with high MYBV. The latter may be explained by the lower metabolic load in the former groups. The effect of days in milk (DIM) on embryo collectio
