Phenolic profiles of riesling wines originating from different terroirs of the Czech Republic

  • Original language description

Riesling belongs to the main grapevine varieties cultivated in the Czech Republic in cool climate viticultural conditions. In this study, 34 varietal Riesling wines from fi ve wine-growing regions in the Czech Republic were investigated. Seventeen phenolic compounds belonging to hydroxybenzoic and hydroxycinnamic acids, stilbenes and fl avan-3-ols were analysed by means of HPLC. Th e study proved that the majority of the assessed phenolic compounds is not infl uenced by vintage year but only by geographical origin. Th e obtained analytical parameters were evaluated for this purpose by CVA (canonical variate analysis). Th e following phenolic compounds may be used to identify the geographical origin of Riesling wines: p-coutaric acid, trans-resveratrol, cis-resveratrol, (+)-catechin and (-)-epicatechin. Most of these phenolic compounds have their origin in grapes and thus have a close relation to the geographical origin.
