    Synthetic musk compounds (SMCs) become ubiquitous in the environment since they are frequently used in personal care products. Synthetic musks are semi-volatile organic chemicals, they can be lipophilic and persistent, therefore could affect the environment. This work was aimed to monitor the concentration of 11 SMCs in sewage sludges from different waste water treatment plants in the Czech Republic. The results showed that galaxolide and tonalide were the most abundant SMCs in sewage sludges with an average amount of 4506 +- 69,75 ug/kg dw and 1196 +- 14,08 ug/kg dw, respectively. Average concentrations of other SMCs such as celeastolide, phantolide and traseolide were found in sewage sludges with concentrations of 55,73 ug/kg, 26,6 ug/kg and 42,9 ug/kg, respectively.
