The effect of pyrolysis on the changes of macronutrients and ash contents in sewage sludge
Original language description
Pyrolysis can be a suitable alternative for sewage sludge treatment, allowing the use of the produced biochar as soil amendment with limited risks. In this study, we tested the combined effects of three pyrolytic temperatures (600 C, 700 C, and 800 C) and two temperature heating rates (THR - Fast and Slow) using sewage sludge (SS) coming from two Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) in the Czech Republic. The resulting Sewage Sludge Derived Biochar (SDBC) showed a higher total content of the studied elements compared to the raw SS. Fast THR had a significant influence on the final total content of P, Mg and S. The combination of 800 C and the fast THR produced the highest total concentration of P in both SDBCs. Regarding the ash content, the highest values in SDBC were observed at 800 C when using the fast THR, 37 % for SDBC 1 and 18 % for SDBC 2. When slow THR was applied, a different behaviour across the temperatures for both SDBCs was observed. SDBC yield decreased with the increasing temperature,
