Investment in precision farming technologies can be expensive and is not expected to be cost-effective for every farm. Research and farm experience has shown that the amount of soil variability across a farm and within a field is of key importance for determining potential benefits from the adoption of precision farming. The paper emphasizes some of the main possibilities of and problems from utilizing spatial-temporal soil and crop data in precision farming. To benefit from this technologically drivenfarming system the spatial variability within fields must be known or measured. Yield maps show the integrated impact of many growth factors such as soil fertility, management, and climate. Electrical conductivity of soils depends on mineral composition,water content and electrolyte concentration and variations of electrical conductivity depend on soil spatial variations on soil structure. Electrical methods are fast and economical for mapping the subsurface electrical conductivity. One
