Application of reciprocal slope transformation to physical and engineering problems
Original language description
The reciprocal slope transformation (RST) for variables x (independent) and y (dependent) is given [y] = x/y; the transformation is denoted by square bracket. This transformation is helpful when the experimental data of approximately proportional and/orlinear character are analyzed and the function y(x) is close to the linear function. For proportional dependence the transformation is represented by constant. The paper demonstrates application of the transformation on body motion (man running), resistance of resistors (ideal Shockley diode) and in detail on approximation of sorption isotherms for materials of biological origin. The use of RST is followed by better approximation of the experimental data, their better smoothing and also better application of methods of numerical analysis.
