Original language description
This article is primarily focused on the current status of oil palm production in Ghana. The oil palm industry in Ghana has developed over the last two decades into huge and important industry which comes next only to cocoa in the agricultural sector ofthe economy. However, consumption of palm oil in Ghana for food and industrial purposes exceeds domestic supplies as a result palm oil is being imported. This paper highlights the contributions of major companies, research institutions, small to medium-scale farms and private holdings promoting oil palm cultivation to boost production. Most importantly, the Government interventions and plans to revive the oil palm industry in Ghana to meet both domestic and industrial demands as well as to compete on the global market have been addressed.
