Soil physical characteristics and soil-tillage implement draft assessment

  • Original language description

The article discusses the results of measurement of soil physical properties that has been done within field trials verifying the influence of substances for soil amendment. Four trial sites were selected in different locations of the Czech Republic in 2014. In each of the fields, different variants of treatment are examined in terms of improvement of parameters of infiltration and water retention, decrease of soil erosion risks, and decrease of energy demand for soil tillage. In the first stage, physical properties of soil were determined by taking undisturbed soil rollers and cone penetration resistance. There is an increase in cone index values with the depth of measurement regardless of the soil conditions and characteristics. Also the influence of soil composition on soil bulk density is evident. Draft of chosen tillage implements was also measured. The chisel plough demonstrated the largest unit draft, followed by the tine cultivator, and the disc harrows showed the smallest value.
