Hop-picking Machine Control Based on Capacitance Throughput Sensor
Original language description
This study investigated the possibility of capacitance throughput sensor integration into some appropriate location of a PT-30 stationary hop picking machine, the possibility of its calibration, the possibility of control procedure development and its performance verification under operational conditions. A capacitance throughput sensor was integrated into the pocket belt conveyor that transports freshly picked hop material to the separation part of the machine. A linear dependence of sensor output voltage on wet hop material throughput was determined for a throughput range from 0.38 kg s-1 to 0.66 kg s-1 with a suitable coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.98). Based on calibration results and harvesting losses measurement, a simple mode of automatic control algorithm was developed. The functioning of the control system was observed for two hours (picking of hop plants from one trailer) during an ordinary harvesting day with the aim to verify its performance. In the case of throughput automatic cont
