Nano Particles as Lubricant Additive: A Concise Review

  • Original language description

In order to successfully design the mechanical elements of a machine in relative motion it is necessary to know and understand the tribological principles such as friction and wear. Lubricating oils play an essential role for the proper functioning of these elements. In fact, the durability and economic effectiveness of the machine are related to the quality, performance and reasonable use of the oils. In fact, the basis of all lubrication mechanisms is the knowledge of the physical and chemical interactions between lubricant molecules, surfaces of materials and the environment. The nanoparticles inserted in lubricating oils can improve their properties such as thermal conductivity, anti-wear power and the reduction of the friction coefficient thus reducing emissions and saving fuel. In recent years, many scientific researchers have devoted themselves to the study of lubricant oil additives to improve lubricating properties. This review focused on the effects of nanoparticles on tribological performa
