Forest stand structure and dynamics in the NNR Voděradské bučiny as heritage and inspiration for the forest management
Original language description
Central Bohemia is an area of very divergent forest conditions and a very long forestry tradition intensively influencing species composition and structure of forests over last 300 years. The study area Voděradské bučiny is a vast territory of almost pure beech stands that have their origin in the three-phase shelterwood felling implemented 1838 in accordance with the new forest instruction. Nevertheless, forest stands with (near) natural forest structure still can be found in the area. Their natural structural development driven by small-scale disturbances may be a valuable source of knowledge for management systems mimicking natural processes. This paper compares the structure of managed homogenous even-aged beech forests stand with (near) natural beech forest stand driven by natural processes.
