Genetic study of five populations of European silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) was made in the area of the Šumava National Park using isoenzyme electrophoretic approach. Nine enzyme systems (IDH, GDH, GOT,LAP, PGM, PGI, PX, PEPCA, 6-PGDH) were used in total. On the basis of the results obtained so far, it seems that the populations of silver fir do not differ significantly from the populations found in the neighbouring countries.
