Original language description
The need to quantify the amount of carbon sequestered in the biomass of forest trees, a focus on precise information concerning the availability of nutrients in the biomass of forests and, finally, pressure for the use of tree biomass as a renewable energy source, are all factors creating a higher demand for the accuracy of the quantification of the biomass of the forest trees. The methodology presented is targeted to the quantification of the aboveground biomass of one of our major commercial tree species, European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) The first part of this document provides detailed methodological guidance for the empirical determination of the aboveground biomass of beech, by utilizing destructive analysis. In second part the selected published allometric equations were tested on an independent set of empirical data from the Czech Republic (46 sample trees). The models with the lowest mean error of estimate are recommended as suitable for use in the conditions of the Czech Re
