Structural Diversity of Autochthonous Beech Forests in Broumovské Stěny National Nature Reserve, Czech Republic
Original language description
This paper documents the structural diversity of the autochthonous seminatural beech stands on the set of five permanent research plots in the region of Broumovské stěny National Nature Reserve (NNR) in the Central Sudetes in the northeastern part of theCzech Republic. The aim of this study was to evaluate structure, standing timber and dead wood of herbrich beech forest stands in the optimum to break-up stage. One further objective was to evaluate the impact of the skeleton-rich mesotrophic Cambisol on the spatial pattern of tree layer and to assess to what degree the knowledge of the horizontal structure can be used for determining their development stage. Horizontal structure of the tree layer was prevailingly random, only on more extreme sites clustered. Spatial pattern of the natural regeneration is aggregated (clustered). Number of living trees with DBH ? 4 cm ranges between 188 to 656 ind.ha-1 with a stand density index 0.45?0.80. Average number of the regeneration recruits is
