The invention relates to a drawer system and its illumination using optical fibres. An optical fibre enables light to pass through furniture construction materials without the need to install an additional light source within the furniture. Furthermore, when a drawer is opened, interruption of the optical fibre allows for the drawer interior to be illuminated.
