Borderless Forests
Original language description
The documentary Borderless forests is directed by Veronika Kastlova. Made in two lengths long version of approx. 29 mins and short version of 9 mins the documentary not only focuses on the issue of adapting European forest to climate change but also discusses the importance of selecting appropriate planting materials adapted to expected future climatic conditions. It highlights the fact that both, climate change and the natural distribution of tree species are trans-border issues. Hence, solutions to this problem should transcend national boundaries. The film features the opinion of experts across Central Europe involved in SUSTREE and otherwise, bringing forward the facts that the current regulation on trade and utilization of seed and planting materials in Europe are mostly designed at the national level. This is creating obstacles for the utilization of the best seed sources and planting materials which may not be locally available. Therefore assisted migration can be explored as a good option. The movie demonstrates different solutions and tools being developed in SUSTREE. Especially, assisted migration of tree seeds and seedling is being introduced and discussed with its pros and cons.
