    One of the effects of climatic change is a reduction in the availability of traditional wood resources, especially softwood. As a result, hardwood-based layered composites and their ever-increasing use drive the interest in hardwood bonding. However, forming such composites presents several challenges that require modifying adhesive systems. The work presented deals with the modification of a polyurethane (PUR) adhesive to the composition of laminates based on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), Common oak (Quercus robur L.), and Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) wood. The modified adhesive system consists of a PUR adhesive and acrylate water-dilutable penetration based on methacrylic acid esters in the cured state with the addition of thermoset particles. The modified adhesive system was tested under static and dynamic bending at different moisture contents of the test samples. Analyses of the mechanical behavior of materials bonded with modified PUR adhesive systems and the chemistry of the bonded part revealed a mix of advantages and disadvantages of this bonding system for certain hardwoods. For black locusts, in particular, the advantages seem to prevail, for which the MOR at 12 % moisture content averaged 160 MPa, and at increased moisture content, it averaged 147 MPa. And the average IBS for black locust wood was 17 J/cm2 for both moisture content levels. In general, the MOR, MOE, IBS, and delamination were improved by the modified adhesive system.
