    TESTING THE GROWTH POTENTIAL OF INTRODUCED TREE SPECIES FOR FUTURE FORESTRY IN CENTRAL EUROPE: INSIGHTS FROM 16 TREE SPECIES IN THE TRUBA ARBORETUM

    Introduced tree species can provide valuable alternatives for future forestry, offering high production potential together with carbon sequestration, resilience to climate change, and enhanced biodiversity. Aim of this case study was to compare the production parameters, structure and diversity of 16 tree species in the Truba Arboretum (Central Bohemia, Czechia) at the age of 40 years. The locality is characterized by an altitude of 320 m a.s.l., medium-rich habitats, and water-deficit sites. It was studied seven pine species (Pinus ponderosa, P. jejjreyi, P. nigra, P. sylvestris reference native species, P. strobus, P. contorta, P. peuce), Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), four fir species (Abies grandis, A. procera, A. borisii regis, A. loewiana) and four spruce species (Picea omorica, P. sitchensis, P. glauca, P. pungens). The highest mortality was determined for Pinus strobus (94.4%), followed by Picea omorica (86.4%), compared to Abies borisii regis (49.6%). On the contrary, the highest stand volume and carbon sequestration in tree biomass were determined for Pinus ponderosa (640 m3/ha, 252 t/ha), Pseudotsuga menziesii (602 m3/ha, 212 t/ha) and Abies grandis (467 m3/ha, 167 t/ha). The highest complex stand diversity was in the case of Abies procera and A. loewiana. The pines showed better vitality compared to spruces and firs, reflecting the site's character. Native Pinus sylvestris showed a medium position in the species range.
