The use of historical sources and their ecological interpretation in the course of almost two centuries ? a literature review
Original language description
In addition to the existing continuously-preserved ecosystems (structures) in the current landscape, traces left in specific places in the landscape, old maps and written records can be considered as sources of written or drawn landscape memory. They provide tangible evidence of landscape management in a given space and time, in the conditions of a specific socio-cultural metabolism. The extent of human memory, as we perceive it today, does not exceed the lifetime of an individual, and these maps and written sources are objective sources of information on the development of the landscape and therefore also of the culture of the given society.
