Comparison of different types of spoil heap reclamation from the small mammal biodiversity perspective ? preliminary results
Original language description
Our report describes relationship between various types of reclamation and small mammals´ biodiversity on spoil heaps after brown coal mining, situated in North-Western part of the Czech Republic. We captured small mammals, three times during the 2009 season at five sites with following reclamation type: forestry (deciduous and coniferous), agricultural, wetland reclamation and controlled succession, using the standard capture-mark-release method (CMR) with live traps in quadrates. We captured and recaptured 67 individuals of five small mammals´ species. The highest abundance was found in deciduous forestry reclamation, 29 individuals (Apodemus flavicollis, Myodes glareolus) and the highest biodiversity was found in wetland reclamation, three species (A. flavicollis, Microtus agrestis, Sorex araneus). Similar results were obtained by capturing small mammals by standard methods using snap traps. Those results indicate the importance of wetlands for the biodiversity of reclaimed areas.
