The role of familiarity with landscape in visual landscape preferences
Original language description
This study deals with the relationship between familiarity with landscape and landscape visual preferences. Familiarity is represented by two characteristics of the respondents: the landscape type, and the population size of the municipality in which therespondent was born or currently lives. The aim of the study was to determine whether the preferences of respondents differ in relation with their characteristics, and whether they prefer landscape types that are familiar to them. The preferences of therespondents were determined using a questionnaire, in which they evaluated photographs taken in the Chomutov-Teplice basin. Using statistical analyses, it was found that the preferences of the respondents were more related to their birthplace than to their current place of residence. The study also points out that respondents in the Mining landscape type and in the Urban landscape type preferred their familiar landscape types less than respondents in other landscape categories.
