    A new lichenicolous Heteroplacidium (Verrucariaceae) from the deserts of southern California.

  • Original language description

    Heteroplacidium transmutans is described from the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts in southern California. It is a lichenicolous lichen that is a juvenile fungal parasite on the common yellow crustose lichen Acarospora socialis. The species eventually developsan independent lichenized thallus that is epilithic on granite.
