(2712) Proposal to conserve the name Lichen cervinus (Acarospora cervina) with a conserved type (Acarosporaceae, lichenised Ascomycota)

  • Original language description

A common and widespread species of Acarospora on calcareous rocks is usually known as A. cervina (Pers. ex Wahlenb.) A.Massal. (Ric. Auton. Lich. Crost. p. 28,1852), and the name is well established. Unfortunately, it is a superfluous name for Lichen squamulosus Schrad. (in Ann. Bot. (Usteri) 22. p. 84,1797), now Acarospora squamulosa (Schrad.) Trevis. (in Rivista Period. Lav. Regia Accad. Sci. Lett. Arti Padova 1 p.263,1853), often cited under its synonym Acarospora peliocypha (Wahlenb.) Th. Fr. (Lich. Arct. P. 89,1860), a species found on siliceous rock. (For the nomenclature of A. squamulosa, see Knudsen et al. in Mycotaxon 134 pp. 281 up 287,2019.)
