Original language description
This correspondence comments on the article “High-Resolution Estimates of N2O Emissions from Inland Waters and Wetlands in China” by Sun et al. We question whether the available monitoring data and auxiliary variables are sufficient to support 1 km × 1 km national emission estimates. The letter highlights missing or sparse observations of key environmental drivers and the limited representation of spatiotemporal heterogeneity in inland waters and wetlands. We also call for a more transparent treatment of model and data uncertainty before such high-resolution emission maps are used in regional or global N2O assessments.
