Not entire land indicated in the land register as agricultural land is convenient for farming or is actually being farmed. The reasons could be environmental, landscape ecological and economic. A possible solution might be removing the locality from theagricultural land fund and to be afforested. However, the implementation of this measure is highly costly and therefore the government finances this measure. This submission covers the evaluation of all applications for financial support and the amount of paid subsidies in accordance to the regions and the category of applicant. The number of qualified application forms varies from 1,000 to 1,500. The amount of subsidy varied between CZK 40m ? 60m. The area of the afforested land distinctively rose from400 ha in 1998 to 1,100 ha in 2001. In the course of afforestation with soil-improving and stabilizing species the oak tree was most widely used. The maximum amount of the financial support was paid in the regions of Žďár nad Sázavou and
