Czech Housing Estates: Recent Changes and New Challenges

  • Original language description

After a period of disinterest of Czech politicians and municipalities and emerging negative image of housing estates, the issue of housing estates and their future position in emerging markets of urban housing has become a regular part of housing policies. On-going privatisation and ageing of both population and physical structures in housing estates are new challenges for municipalities as well as for residents of housing estates and may become an issue also for the European Union. The article describes recent changes, new problems, identifies new roles for the actors and stakeholders of upgrading and revitalisation. Finally, several ideas of how to face the challenges are presented.
