Scientific research of the department is mainly aimed at forest tree breeding, increasing of genetic diversity of forest tree species, conservation and reproduction of forest genetic resources and explant cultures in vitro. Great attention is paid to firbreeding on hybridisation basis, conservation, breeding and propagation of wild cherry and other noble hardwoods, propagation of valuable broadleaved tree species by methods in vitro and somatic embryogenesis of Norway spruce, European silver fir and other forest tree species.
