Status and development of soils in the Bilateral Biosferic Reserve Krkonoše/ Karkonosze

  • Original language description

The presentation is dealing with distribution of separate soil types and subtypes and with status and development of soils in the Giant Mountains. Soil condition mapping was realized as in Czech, as in Polish part of the Giant Mountains. Model examples of soil profiles for separate soil types and subtypes were described and the status and progress of soil chemistry in separate soil horizons was evaluated. Soil conditions of Giant Mountains are very various, from whence it follows that pedogenesis has broad conditions spectrum. It is reflected in large amount of soil types and subtypes. There markedly dominates cryptopodzol modal, plentifully represented is podzol modal and ranker podzol. Soils are mostly mineral-poor and relatively acid. Current unfavorable antropogenic processes harms these soils by different ways. That is why the status of soils and their progress changes has crucial meaning for forest ecosystems management.
