Structure and development of forest ecosystems in the Krkonoše Mts.

  • Original language description

The presentation evaluates the structure as well as development of forest stands both in Czech as well as Polish part of the Giant Mts. The big attention was paid not only to species composition, but also to the horizontal and vertical structure and agestructure of forest stands. The detailed analysis of beech, mixed and spruce stands was done on the series of 32 permanent research plots (PRP) in different site and stand conditions of the Czech part of the mountains. The studies were oriented especially at fragments of the autochthonous stands, relatively less influenced by human impacts. Basing on long-term (25 ? 30 years) research of the horizontal as well as vertical structure of these stands, the dynamics and structural processes were evaluated differentially. Results reveal certain differences between particular natural forests despite some similar features. These are determined by different ecological conditions, limits of the environment, and different character of dominant tre
