Use of willow clones in phytoremediation of heavy metals contaminated soil
Original language description
Clone variability of heavy metals accumulation by Salix sp. and determination of the remediation potential of willow clones was purpose of the study in pot experiment. Seven clones of Salix sp. were planted on highly contaminated soil with total contentof elements in soil: 37.5 mg.kg-1 of As, 4.73 mg.kg-1 of Cd, 1158 mg.kg-1 of Pb, 180 mg.kg-1 of Zn, respectively. Content of As in plant biomass was varied in range from 0.316 mg.kg-1 in twigs to 2.35 mg.kg-1 in leaves, Cd from 18.6 mg.kg-1 in twigs to 89.3 mg.kg-1 in leaves, Pb from 2.28 mg.kg-1 in leaves to 10.8 mg.kg-1 in twigs, and Zn from 52.8 mg.kg-1 in twigs to 572 mg.kg-1 in leaves. The highest transferfactors from twigs to leaves of Salix sp. were evaluated for zinc, whereas for lead the lowest. The highest capacity to phytoremediate highly contaminated soil demonstrated S. x smithiana and S. x rubens especially for Cd and Zn contamination.
