The Prague School of Marxist Iconology
Original language description
The study presents a newly recognized and rather original direction of iconology, which was the so-called Prague School of Marxist iconology in the 1960s–1980s. Its creators started directly from Aby Warburg, but incorporated Marxist-Leninist historical materialism into his ideas. Meaning of images was then interpreted without reference to contemporary texts (as was typical of Panofsky’s iconology), purely on the basis of visual, interpictorial comparison and Einfühlung taken from Sedlmayr.
