Properties of Ag+ and K+ ion-exchanged optical waveguides in erbium doped specially designed optical glasses: a comparative study
Original language description
We report about ion-exchange fabrication of optical waveguides in newly developed silicate glasses that contained various ratios of divalent glass modifiers as MgO, CaO or ZnO, while the molar content of sodium and erbium was kept constant. Ag+ exchangereaction resulted in rather step-like refractive index depth profiles, K+ exchange gave rise to lesser-mode graded shape index profile with larger TE-TM birefringence. The ion-exchange process did not change the concentration of the Er3+ ions, nor causedformation of Er3+ microclusters.
